The Changjiang River turns its direction towards the north in Zhenjiang New Area, thus forming an excellent natural deep-water shoreline of about 11.4 kilometers. The section of the Changjiang River within Zhenjiang New Area is 9-10.55 meters above the sea level(Wusong level) and the average depth of water is ¨C11m to ¨C8m all the year round. This not only benefits water transportation, but also makes this area free of flood disasters. Zhenjiang Port is located on the southern bank of the lower reaches of the Changjiang River . Dagang Habour of Zhenjiang Port is situated within Zhenjiang New Area, where the Changjiang River crosses the Beijing-Hanzhou Grand Canal. The excellent geographical location and collective & distributive conditions make Zhenjiang Port one of the important foreign trade ports in China . Now Zhenjiang Port has become a Class A open port and one of the major terminal ports in China . Since its opening to foreign ships, Zhenjiang Port has established business relationships with over 120 ports from over 50 countries.
Berthing capacity of Dagang Habour: The water depth alongside the frontage of Zhenjiang Port is ¨C11 meters, enough to berth 50,000 tonnage vessels all year round. After the dredging of the mouth of the Changjiang River in Shanghai before 2010, Dagang Harbour will possess the capacity of berthing 100,000 tonnage vessels.
Loading and unloading capacity of Zhenjiang Port : The authorized loading and unloading capacity is 35.60 million tons. In 2002, the total volume of cargo handled at Zhenjiang Port was 26.298 million tons, 14.00 million tons of which was handled at Dagang Harbour; the total volume of container goods handled at Zhenjiang Port was 100,000 standard containers, 76,000 of which was handled at Dagang Harbour.
At present, in Dagang Harbour , there are fifteen 25,000-tonnage deep-water berths (Of which are eleven regular berths, one container berth and three 25,000-tonnage float berths); there is a 25,000-tonnage special chemical jetty available in Zhenjiang New Area. Four new 30,000 to 70,000-tonnage jetties will be built in the third-phase expansion project of Dagang Habour. |
