A split-flow drainage system is adopted for rainwater and wastewater. Rainwater drainpipes and sewage pipes are laid respectively along the roads. There is a rainwater drain pipeline along either side of the road. The diameter of the pipe is from 400 to 1,500mm. The diameter of the drainpipes is from 400 to 900mm. In Zhenjiang New Area, there is a sewage treatment plant with a planned disposal capacity of 20,000 tons per day and there are seven supporting sump pump stations and pipelines. At present, the disposal capacity of the plant is 10,000 tons. Wastewater is supposed to be treated by the enterprise on its own in conformity with the tertiary standard of Class II pollution sources stipulated in ^Comprehensive Sewage Discharge Standards ̄ (GB8978-1996) before it is discharged into the public drainage system and carried by multi-stage pump stations to the sewage treatment in Zhenjiang New Area for secondary treatment.

Enterprises can also build sewage treatment plants of their own in conformity with the absolute standard of Class II pollution sources stipulated in ^Comprehensive Sewage Discharge Standards ̄ (GB8978-1996) before discharging the disposed water directly into rivers.

Zhenjiang New Area has also set up a solid waste treatment center, disposing of various kinds of solid wastes from enterprises.
