Situated at the intersection of the Changjiang River and Beijing-hangzhou Grand Canal ---the “Golden Cross-waterway”, Zhenjiang New Area is highly developed as far as traffic is concerned. Within Zhenjiang New Area is the main port area of Zhenjiang Port , which has opened up direct nevigation with over 120 ports in more than 50 countries. Besides, National Road No.312 and Provincial Road No. 238 cut across the New Area. Shanghai-Nanjing expressway crosses Yangzhou-Liyang expressway in Zhenjiang New Area. There are high-grade roads linking Zhenjiang New Area and Zhenjiang city. At present, Runyang Yangtse River Bridge , which links Zhenjiang and Yangzhou , is under construction and will be open to traffic in 2005. Shanghai-Nanjing expressway and National Road No. 312 are being widened to 8 to 10 lanes. Shanghai-Nanjing high-speed railway, which will cut across Zhenjiang city, is being planned. When these projects are put into use, Zhenjiang New Area will become an important hub of communications in the Changjiang delta region.
